Default invalid module format, what am I overlooking?

Okay, I've gone wrong somewhere on my system, and must been overlooking something (can't re-install 180.29 even though it installed before).

Compiler matches kernel (2.6.29 rc) and module build (Mandriva gcc 4.3.2 64-bit)

nVidia driver builds fine, but won't load (invalid module format).

build/source links are set up properly from /lib/modules/linux-* to /usr/src/linux-*

What else is there to look at? Usually this is just a gcc mismatch, or wrong kernel tree link. I'm stumped at the moment for once.

Hrm. Installs and works fine if I reboot back to 2.6.28 kernel...

Is 2.6.29-rc not supported yet?

Were the modules compiled with the same the kernel config?
Also, did they compile for 32 bit and you're running a 64 bit kernel or vice versa?

I got this working, but I don't know why yet.

The proper way under MDV is to install kernel-devel. Then, everything worked fine.

I used to install kernel-source, and then edit the Makefile kernel name, mrproper, oldconfig, and build the header files. It should be identical. It has worked fine for years. But not for the last two weeks... a glitch... it does that when they change something...

It would sort of indicate that the full kernel source isn't matching the binary kernel possibly.
