Galaxy working on 2 GB version of GeForce GTX285

GALAXY is preparing its new custom design addition to the GTX285 series: GTX285 2GB. It features a core speed of 648MHz on its 0.8ns GDDR3 memory with a 512bit interface. The cooling system is equipped with Arctic Cooling with 5 heat pipes and 3 PWM fans which speed is at 2000 RPM provide a balance between performance and noise. The card comes with a digital PWM design whereas the reference design comes with 6 phase analog power.

The card also has dual-bios, smart fan on it which means it can work by Xtreme Tuner Utility software. Exclusively developed by Galaxy Microsystems, leveraging its years of industry experience, the Xtreme Tuner is a highly innovative, versatile and unique piece of software that is a must-have for hardcore DIY users. An intuitive and smart panel allows the user to manipulate things like BIOS recovery, fan speed, and the overclock setting which lead to the ultimate DIY experiences.

Innovation by Galaxy. Increasing available on board memeory to 2 GB and a cooling solution that should offer better cooling than reference HSF

I would like to see this with GTA 4? Would it actually increase performance? Or heck, high res + high AA and AF! Would the extra GB of VRAM help?

but this would certainly help at the higher resolutions, ie 2560x1600. Like the benchmark on tomshardware i think where it shows the frames getting cut in half going from 1920x1200 to 2560x1600 in crysis just because there's not enough memory.

My 2707WFP is only 1920x1200 anyway (and I WON'T be changing that anytime soon), but running absolutely everything at that resolution hasn't been a possibility for me anyway with my current rig. That's one of the reasons I'm building a new i7 system as I type this.

A higher res than 19x12 is moot for most (not all obviously), but getting playable frames with eye candy turned up at 1920x1200 is still a visceral experience regardless of what you're playing.

I'd love a couple of these, but

1) the cooling setup would be no good for sli (top card would have to cope with more of the bottom cards heat due to the fan setup.

2) the size of the cooling solution. It hangs off of the side of the pcb, making the cards even longer (definitely something I do NOT need and I use coolermaster stacker cases).

The 2gb of ram should definitely help performance out at higher resolutions with AA/AF. I was recently benching crysis warhead @ 1680x1050, 16xQ AA, enthusiast. the game was taking up 925 - 945 mb of framebuffer at those settings. You can imagine what the memory requirements at 1920x1200 or 2560x1600 would be like.

Its been popular for quite a while now to hear claims that memory size over a certain point (512mb being the current favorite) makes no difference compared to core/shader speeds. This simply isn't true for quite a few games out there when you crank the resolution and the IQ.
