I think the general consensus here is that if you use IE, you NEED to get IE8 unless your machine is locked down.

If you don't use it, it has nothing new to make it worth switching from FF/Opera/Safari that you switched to for one reason or another.

- UI is definitely faster than FF UI
- Accelerators are (very) useful - for search, maps, email, blogs, etc.
- integration with Live services is nice (if you use them)
- InPrivate browsing is useful (for some)
- emphasis on domain part of URL is useful
- independent threads for tabs are excellent feature for stability
- phishing and XSS protection is best on the market

Seems to me like quite a lot of features to switch.

to each their own. I don't even use x64 fire fox even though it is out there on my home machine because it lacks the things that I use on a regular basis, which are the extensions I Have in my FF installs. For a lot of people that use FF, extensions will be what keeps them on that browser.

Anyone having a problem where IE8 often decides not to load new tabs at all? eg... I middle mouse click to open a link in a new tab but the new tab just sits there doing nothing, appearing as trying to open the link but actually doing nothing. If I load the same link in an existing tab that works, the link works fine.

Same thing when opening a completely new IE window, sometimes it doesn't load my home page, it just sits there with the magnifying glass at the bottom instead of the clock, doesn't matter how long you leave it it will still not load. Even if I try and enter in a new link in that window that isn't loading anything, it still won't.

This is extremely annoying and I think it may have to do with another app conflicting with IE (AVG, Comodo?). It happened with IE8 RC1 and it's still happening with Final

No such problem with Firefox.

I'm digging the new Chrome v2 beta along with IE8, they are my two new favorite browsers. While many of you have been hyping Firefox for years I just never liked it. I only moved to it when FF3 came out because I couldn't deny that it was faster than IE7. Ever since IE8 RC1 and Chrome I've not looked back.

I like Chrome for no other reason than the way it handles tabs, I think many software developers need to get with the times. We have multi-core processors, dual GPUS and yet software is still single threaded. Not to mention 64-Bit computing, I'd like to see people get with it and Chrome does that. It's genius, and I know IE8 does this to a degree, to open every tab as a separate instance. I like how everything is contained in the one tab, not just the browser so if Flash crashes just that browser, not even Flash in the other tabs just that one tab.

For me its Chrome and IE8 all the way. Plain and simple, I looked at the FF 3.1 build and it's nothing new. Sorry but FF has been wiped from my system.

I use 32 bit Windows XP on dialup, and my Firefox has only crashed a total of 2 times, since Firefox 1 even went Alpha. I have about 8 extensions, too.
