Firefox takes care of everything I want in a web browser, I see no reason to switch.

Say I wanted to though, can you import saved passwords/bookmarks from Firefox?

EDIT: Installed on my work PC (XP 32), posting from IE8!

Crashed 3 times already since I started the browser! Nice. Moving the mouse over an ad frame on the front of NVNews resulted in many error messages, followed by a crash. It did recover nicely, however. Crashed once more upon clicking on this thread. Got into the thread and it crashed once that green ad text stuff popped up with an ad. Very nice!

more on IE8 Fail, a site of ours that is 2 columns via floated divs is now a 1 column website in IE8, but it works in beta safari, IE7, and FF...

Just an FYI for the other web devs out there that use more complex css based layouts.

When I installed IE8, it installed, but it hung up when asked to reboot. When I reboot from hardware, I go back into IE8, and it crashes. Haven't started it since.

comment already made, point lost in translation. To a point they are not the end all be all of standard testing. They test a very specific set of functionality under certain circumstances, that are not necessarily realistic. However without them what else are we supposed to use?

Yes, it's not the point that all other browsers either pass or get a very high mark. Standards are a recommendation which all other browsers follow except IE and Microsoft.

I would have said it is a step in the right direction. Microsoft's excuses for not making their browser more compliant is a step in their usual direction, in other words it's one step forward, one step back.

I guess I'm sticking with Firefox based on what I've read in this thread.

Acid3 does NOT test standards. Period.

IE8 complies fully with CSS 2.1 W3C recommendations (aka standards). In fact, as the only browser. CSS 2.1 is what does truly matter to webdesigners.

But Acid3 tests some CSS3 stuff which still has draft status, some unfinished HTML5 specs (not even in draft status, just "suggestions" here and there) and plenty of Javascript dependent on that.

Passing Acid3 test in fact means NOT conforming to W3C standards!

It would be a very bad move to support some random HTML5 tags and some random CSS3 approaches in IE8 just to pass Acid3, as these suggestions could not be altered anymore. IE8 implementing them would basically mean they would HAVE TO become a standard, even when they are still far from ideal state.

Passing Acid3 test with 100 score is pure marketing, and only IT uneducated people are impressed by that.

but it is getting funny seeing you get bent all out of shape because people don't share your love for IE.

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/IE8...soft,7361.html

would seem there are more people happier with what they had, or having to make a "new" browser behave like the old one that didn't follow the standards because the new one doesn't correctly either.
