Default monitor distortion

I just replaced my crt monitor with an eMachines E19T6W wide screen . The display seems to be stretched out horizontally so that circles are oval and images look wider than they should.
The monitore resolution is 1440x900. The highest that I can get for my display is 1600x1200.

I have tried different settings but that doesn't seem to help.

Would appreciate any suggestions as to what can be done to get a normal image. Do I need to replace the monitor driver, etc.

Thanks a million for any help

It sounds like you're using a 5:4 resolution on your 16:10 monitor. 1440x900 is the native (and maximum) according to http://www.emachines.com/products/pr...ml?prod=E19T6W You shouldn't be using 1600x1200 on it. If you wanted to try something higher, you should use 1680x1050, but I'd stick with the native resolution..
