Question Another old (arcade) game to identify

Now that Final Fight was quickly identified...

This game is four-way scrolling platformer/adventure in which you travel across a fairly big level (maze) collecting treasure. While this doesn't tell much about the game there's one distinguishable thing in the game: when the time runs out, a giant foot appears, killing the player while coming down the screen. Sole of this foot spans across entire screen. Since a thought of such enormous foot strikes me quite unusual, I think it would be fair to assume this foot plays integral part in the game or in its name. I could be wrong though.

The game was probably released between 1986-1990. I remember they had this game at my local kiosk about the same time they had Konami's Typhoon.

Finally, some less vivid memories of the game:
- It was probably possible to choose between two or three characters in the game.
- The first or the second level of the game was shaped (in overall) roughly like a pyramid.
- On the first level there was a big treasure placed in a seemingly inaccessible spot at the left end of certain "corridor" with floor covered with fire traps.

That's before I would have played any arcade games. It doesn't sound familiar to me.

I tried a bit of yahoo and google searching for games related to giant feet and pyramids and the only thing that came up was Commander Keen but I doubt that's it because it wasn't an arcade game.

Not much to go on there but i do have a game in mind that it could be....however, i cannot for the life of me remember what its called. It may have appeared on the Commodore 64 or Amiga too.

Edit: Is it Gauntlet? Although i cant remember a giant foot wiping you out on that only thing that springs to mind with the giant foot is jet set willy and manic miner.

Gauntlet? Nope. Gauntlet is practically a top-view shoot'em up. I'm looking for side-view platformer with IIRC notably better graphics. I can't tell if there's an Amiga or C64 port of the game but for my own reasons I think not.

Jet Set Willy? Manic Miner? Another miss. How could I forget such classic Spectrum games?-) Commander Keen? I was never too keen on the series, but I know enough of it to say it wasn't that either.

Thanks anyway.

As for the gianl foot, it's really huge. Sole of the foot spans across entire screen, not just some hero character sized sprite.

Dino Eggs? For Commodore 64 and Apple II series. It was released in 1983.

If it is Dino Eggs you have a lot of splainin to do with the dodgy description.

Pyramid shaped level is the warp screen..?

While looking at old c64 games I read this in the review bar on Lemon64 for "The Sentinel":
"2003-09-30
About two years ago, my 57-year-old wife started playing a computer game. At first, she would play a few times a week. Now it has taken over her whole life. She plays this stupid game every day of the week and sometimes until 3 a.m. I am sick and tired of going to bed alone.

We now have no sex life, and very little gets cleaned or cooked around the house. My wife used to have a lot of interesting hobbies, but she hasn't touched a crochet needle or a good book in ages. Talking to her about it does no good. She says she needs the computer game as an "escape."

My wife has started a telephone friendship with a 25-year-old man who also plays this stupid computer game. They talk every day, sometimes for hours at a time, and sound like lovers. This doesn't seem normal to me.

I am depressed, miserable and so lonely I have started going with other seniors to the casinos once a week. Please tell me what to do before we begin hating each other."

I should stop playing GTAIV till 4am...

Thanks, but the game wasn't Dino Eggs either. Dino Eggs is much too old (and it doesn't look like 4-way scroller anyway), and only available for 8-bit home computers. The game I played was housed in an arcade cabinet, standing in our local kiosk around the same time they had Konami's Typhoon. I'd ask the kiosk owner but she hasn't run the place for ten years and nowadays I'm living 400 km from there.

I've tried several games of that period with MAME, but there's no guarantee my collection even has the game I'm trying to find. As you might imagine, without a name it's somewhat desperate.

Chronologically (and graphically) Final Fight is probably the closest match so far -- not to mention there's an arcade version of it -- but I'm afraid it still fails my assertions that the game is platformer and four-way scroller. :-)

If only this site allowed you to search or browse by features...

http://coinop.org/

They have "mult-way scrolling" listed as an attribute on games like Gauntlet, but you can't actually search for games that have that same feature.
