Default X11 update conflics with kmod-nvidia-96xx?

I updated X11 lib this date (23 March) as part of a normal set of available updates and now programs requiring accelerated video will no longer start. Could only test with etracer (Tux Racer) and GoogleEarth.

System details:
Laptop with GeForce4, driver = kmod-nvidia-96xx.i686 96.43.11-1.fc10.1 from rpmfusion using yum.
Fedora kernel 2.6.27.19-170.2.35.fc10.i686 with x-server 1.5.3 and all latest updates applied as at 23 March 09 (incl. X11 lib).

Symptoms:
1. when trying to start etracer from console, get introduction to program up to ... no warranty ... see http ... or details.", then a blinking cursor and nothing more.

2. when trying to start GoogleEarth from console, get standard warning about creating prefs directory, get GoogleEarth splash screen, then blinking cursor in console and nothing more.

xorg.conf file that was created by livna-config-display is unchanged, and necessary modules appear to be in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia. Non-accelerated, applications tested appear to run fine.

nvidia-bug-report is attached.

As the nvidia kernel module, and the xorg replacement module seems presents (can we check with xorg.conf quoted ?), the last thing it to check for ldconfig replacement libGL.
What is the output of ldd $(which glxinfo) ?

The xorg.conf file is as follows:

--snip--
# Xorg configuration created by livna-config-display

Section "Files"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
EndSection

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AIGLX" "on"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
EndSection

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection
--snip--

The output of ldd $(which glxinfo) is:

--snip--
@localhost ~]$ ldd $(which glxinfo)
linux-gate.so.1 => (0x00f24000)
libGL.so.1 => /usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so.1 (0x06206000)

libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x008a4000)

libxcb-xlib.so.0 => /usr/lib/libxcb-xlib.so.0 (0x00b37000)

libXdmcp.so.6 => /usr/lib/libXdmcp.so.6 (0x00b59000)
--snip--

Further to my last post, I've been able to confirm that the only files updated that I believe may be causing this problem are for package:
libX11-1.1.5-1.fc10 (i386) [updated from libX11-1.1.4-6.fc10], plus it's -devel- package.

xorg-x11-drv-vesa-2.2.0-3.fc10 was also updated (from 2.0.0-1.fc10) but since the vesa driver is not in use this should have no effect?

Try:
Code:
mv /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.bak
ln -s /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.96.43.11 /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so
Then reset X server. Probably with package xorg-x11-drv-vesa come libglx.so, witch conflicts with Nvidia's libglx.so.96.43.11.

It is a problem with the updated libX11.

I downgraded to libX11-1.1.4-6.fc10.i386.rpm by downloading the rpm from here:

http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/b...?buildID=70105

and then performed the following command:

rpm -Uvh --oldpackage --replacepkgs libX11*.rpm

After restarting the X server, I was able to launch 3D applications successfully. The issue will return the next time you update your system until a newer version of libX11 is pushed out.

The bug has been reported to the Fedora maintainers, please add comments to the bug if you wish at the link below:

I had considered downgrading, but wasn't sure how. Now I do, and now things are working fine again. Many thanks.

I was going to add a comment to the bug, but having read through existing comments it appears that Fedora maintainers may already have a fix, pending update release.

rpm -q libX11
if that output libX11-1.1.5-1.fc10
yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing libX11

This seems to be solved with libX11-1.1.5-2.fc10
