Based off of Bigfoot tech (Killer Nic) around April.
released date: AprilI still say any separate dedicated NIC (cheap) would do the same (minus USB/VOIP) in relation to the onboard nic which will eat CPU cycles just like onboard sound in a single CPU based system.) In the old days (P3 days), you would saturate the CPU with Gigabit Ethernet and thus a dedicated (processor+memory) NIC was required. Now a days, any P4 or multi core CPU should be able to handle this, however unloading anything from "on-board" would help. I may pick one up and do some side by side tests with a cheap ($20 10/100/1000) NIC when they are released this April. updated: EVGA video here

I'll check out reviews with modern quad-core machines, I doubt it will make a difference on a very high end rig, but you never know...

In Toms test the older Killer NIC had great ping times compared to a onboard NIC. And that was with a really powerful CPU (at that time).
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/killer-m...ew-1083-4.html To be honest people who play online a lot should get better NIC than the crappy onboard ones (especially Realtek). But there are other options than Killer NIC (which is pricy). A fairly cheap standalone Intel NIC is often enough to get a improvement in ping times and much better drivers. |

It's more like comparing on board video to an 260GTX add in card.

Would moving from my on-board nic (asus p5n-d) to say an 3C905B-TX fast etherlink be an improvement? The chip says Parallel Tasking II on it.I'm having some connection interupts during my COD sessions, and would it remove some cpu cycles or just move them to the new nic?

The Windows network stack is just not designed for gaming, it is better at large file transfers.
The card bypasses the windows network stack, and optimizes it for gaming. (smaller packet transfers)
