Default Re: Windows Vista SP2 Hits RTM

Escrow has been out for about a week. Its been sitting on my desktop, but I didnt install it. Was having some issues with not seeing my server (running Sp2 beta) over the network with the other machines... and with the shared printer. When I uninstalled SP2 beta .286 suddenly everything is working again.

Just a warning if you are using other machines that going to SP2 may not be fully compatible with your SP1 machines

Would it be possible for anything to upload the Slipstream build to some place we can download it?

MS put one out a few beta builds ago. Im sure we'll see it soon. Problem was that you couldnt update it to a newer beta, so I had to reinstall a fresh copy of SP1 just to go up to .286

I know MS released them for SP1 but as far as I remember they were only to Technet members and the like. I try to stay away from torrents but I guess I could have gotten in on there. I'm just hoping we have public slipstream builds from MS.

Vista SP2 do not hit RTM yet and Connect beta testers received old Escrow build, I currently running build 6002.17506.090313-1730 2 days now so who know the build I running now may be the final RTM build.

Ok, how is it? Memory usage higher or lower? Faster?

Looked great so far it used less memory usage than Vista SP1 and same speed. When I booted Vista SP1 and reached desktop, I checked Task Manager that Vista SP1 used 1.5GB memory usage with 45 processes compared to 1.23GB and 66 processes with Vista SP2 escrow.

Then you've got alot of crap loading - I have a bunch in fact. My SP1 is 1.3GB @ boot up, 850-900MB SP2. SP2 uses alot less memory. Not as little as Windows 7 but much better.

Ive got Windows 7 on my netbook and it runs great, something Vista couldnt even run on.

Is it running pretty stable for you buddy?

I haven't moved from SP1 yet because I am thinking I'll probably do a straight, clean install of Win7 when it drops but if there are enough enhancements, I would be tempted.

Well I checked the full list of processes, here are not alot of crap loaded but 15 svchost.exe running in background, I seem cant shut it down. Checked the file location and found out svchost.exe is from Vista SP1, it not been updated for SP2 so guess I have to wait for official RTM then the processes should coming down to 45 or less.
