Default unable to change resolution

Hi. i have an asus g71v laptop with a 9700m GT. with ubuntu x64 and nvidia drivers v.180
My resolution is 1920x1200 and i am unable to change it to 1280x768 or add it xorg modes or nvidia metamodes.

Is the xrandr program able to report/set modes?
