In fairness, it seems like a paltry increase. Surely it should be a bit faster to accomodate the rapid changes that SSD will hopefully bring?

I was just going to say what do you mean "paltry" then I looked sata2 up and its speed is in megabits/second, not megabytes. So, does 6Mb/S = 0.75GB/s?

... and what the hell is up with the megabits and megabytes things? It's almost as awkward as the date formats mm/dd/yy and dd/mm/yy.

Damn yanks.

Eh? There are 8 bits in a byte. Pretty simple.

3Gbit SATA is 375Mbyte per second.

6Gbit SATA is 750Mbyte per second.

6Gbit SATA should be plenty for quite a while. Think about it. You could transfer the contents of an entire CD over the SATA interface in less than a second. Or a single layer DVD in around 6 seconds. Its up to the drives to actually make that happen though.

But hard drive manuafacturers are lazy schites. If they had gone for a 12gigabit interface it may be a long time before it was saturated, but would allow alot of headroom.

Ah well.

Though, how long has Sata2 been around for? Whatever the number of years, it still does not seem to be bottle necking HDDs/SSDs.

That is assuming that each drive gets the full path (3Gbits/s) if you talk about RAID set ups.

... and CL - yeah it is pretty simple once you put it that way!
