Default 9500GT browsing internet crash and cause X restart

As on title... it crashed out very suddenly. X restarted and prompted login.

I think you made a good job with 180.37 perfomances are better, but I think there are some reliable fundamental that must be solved as soon as possible, I posted about it in other threads.

Now X restarted but the system has a different behavior it's more laggy... I think the problem is a website!! www.tim.it obviously I'm not doing advertisment so if you want to remove, no problem, anyway I've lot of trouble browsing that site...

Default Re: 9500GT with 180.37 crash and cause X restart

Uah
I clicked on that site with 180.29 driver and it has happened exactly the same. The X restarted
So it is not a problem of 180.37 or that is a pretty weird site.

Add after edit.

I used the fact that X has rebooted to install the 180.37 driver and I clicked again on that site and I can scroll the site X is normal.
So for me that site as restarted the X with the 180.29 driver but has work fine with 180.37 driver.

I think my card is an 8600GS

After X crash and restart, X is quite unusable!!
I've got kdm login, but I can't ctrl+F1 to go on first bash, if I try that nothing happens.
I can only click to restart computer, otherwise I can enter the session but it's strangely laggy.

Did anyone find the reason?

Default Re: X crash also with GeForce 8600 GS and driver 180.29

I have experienced X crash also with GeForce 8600 GS and driver 180.29 when visiting that site

I really wonder what is the particularity of that site. The crash also happens when no flash is used.

Has been the 180.37 version of the driver officially released as stable?

I can not found it from the driver download page and it is not listed on this page

In this list of Current NVIDIA Linux graphics driver releases the 180.37 is marked as pre-release.
This post, however, is some months ago.

Is it the 180.37 enough stable?

I was able to reproduce a crash visiting www.tim.it on my system at home when I tried it with a recent 180.xx driver yesterday. It looks like it happened in the glyph cache code, so disabling that may help (I didn't try). I filed a bug to track this problem.

The crash we were able to reproduce should be fixed in future NVIDIA Linux graphics driver releases.
