New monitor: issues...

Hi,

I bought a new monitor (Medion Akoya P54003 -widescreen) which can do 1440x900 and it does, as long as I use the nv drivers. Switching to the 3D nvidia drivers lowers the resolution to 1280x1024 or -slightly better- 1280x960. I can't get it better than that.
Card is a Vanta LT, OS is Linux Slackware 12.2.
Driver: 71.86.06 and already replaced that one by the 71.86.09, to no avail.

Anyone an idea why I can't get the screenresolution any better?
