Beat Butcher Bay... freaking AMAZING game, even the second time around. Probably one of my favorites of all time.

Starting Dark Athena later tonight... let's see how it holds up.

Wow, I love Dark Athena's art design. I think it's someone different from Butcher Bay and while the graphics are mostly the same, the style feels advanced and intricate.

The drones are cool... the ship is actually run by just a small group of "pirates" but they have all these half-organic drones that they can take over from a control room. Normally they just wander around slowly looking for you, but when taken over they move faster and with more intelligence. Neat concept. You use them as weapons too, so you can sneak up on one, kill it, then use its arm to kill the others in the room. Makes you feel like a badass.

One more Butcher Bay screen, followed by some Dark Athena screens. The early parts of Dark Athena are very stealth oriented, but soon after it goes all melee for a while... varying gameplay styles is one of the things cool about this series.

I finally got around to beating Butcher Bay as I never finished the 2004 copy of the game before I had to return it to a friend. The final escape and the ending was great, and I liked the interplay between Rid**** and Johns as both deadly enemies and partners in crime. Just started Dark Athena, and I kind of miss the character interaction and wealth of side quests that was present in the first part half of Butcher Bay in the prison area. But those dual blades are just badass.

There's a lot of dialogue, quests and such later on in Athena... maybe not as much as Butcher Bay, but a good bit.

The sequel does seem more action focused though, yes.
