What about Dungeon Siege or Neverwinter Nights?

NWN isn't an action RPG.

I haven't had any problems with it, but of course there might be cases with problems. The fixes should not change the basic gameplay, just fixing bugs (that are possible to fix by changing the database files, as the exe cannot be changed).

If you don't have any issues you can run without it indeed. For me it fixed the huge lag in a few zones (Tower of Judgement and Crystal Room).

Regarding PS3, I am tempted. Demon Souls and the upcoming God of War III. Two games I'd really like to play. Other action games on console is Conan (underrated imo, great combat system, but lacks a bit on item/gear side). Also Viking is worth checking out.

I'm scared of the fan patch, though I'd like to try it

Defiler is a great mod program... if you look at the additional mods in there (it has a compilation of mods, I don't have it installed at the moment, so can't tell where exactly, but look around) there are a couple of loot-mods that can also make the game a lot tougher.

A neat thing about TQ is that mobs that drop loot are actually using the loot. So if you use the mod that increases the chances of higher level items being on mobs, it will, by default, make the game harder because now they're swinging Uber Swords of Uberness around instead of crappy broken swords. Plus you get more loot when you kill them

As for bosses, the biggest thing I found is that on higher levels resists are a big deal. Later on theirs a boss (don't want to spoil anything for you) that's very heavy in poison damage... I couldn't get past it in Legendary until went through my caravan and stacked up loads of poison resist even at the detriment of DPS, and made it through... I played that game constantly for like a year or two, and would still be playing it if it wasn't for the fact that I want to try new games for a while

It's not necessary, I just started playing late and used it. It changed some game files, so I don't know if you can go back without reinstalling TQIT.

Here is my TQ char (early pic). Built a soothsayer with plan to have lots of summons. Wolves, nymph, liche and outsider + enslave. I had to do a rebuild last chapters on normal though because it was really hard to play (wolves dying so often they were useless etc). I just removed the wolves and maxed wraith shell, and healed the liche now and then which was much easier. But after normal wolves get stronger on higher difficulty. My style is letting the summons do most work, having them all on agressive except nymph. I stay back and heal and do some Plauge+Ternion attacks. Total slacker hero

I definitely give a third vote for The Witcher! One of the best action RPGs I've ever played.

I can't wait for another installment...

Thats not really an Action RPG, I have it on the PS2. It plays like the LOTR Action games.

Witcher is an amazing RPG, but is more of full pledge RPG, then Action RPG.
