Hi all,
I already have the 173.14.15 release on my system (quadro fx570) but a software support guy ask me to install the 169.12. When I tried to install it, I have a problem of kernel compilation. I already followed the http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72490 instructions (especially with yum), I rebooted the system on a no GUI mode, and launch as root the archive. But it fails to compile. My opinion is that the 173.14.15 release shouldn't be installed when I try to install an older version. But what are exactly the commands to remove the 173.14.15 driver version (and still have an interface) ? Will this issue solve my problem or is it somewhere else ? I found this subject but it didn't help me : http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...ra+core+kernel. I'm new on Linux (2 month), so I don't want to break my system Thank you for helping. Alex |

To remove the rpmfusion nvidia package:
yum remove xorg-x11-drv-nvidia\* and reboot Now if you are using a quadro fx 570, you should better use kmod-nvidia (which remains at 177.82 in F-9 IIRC) instead of 169.12. yum install kmod-nvidia-newest (specially for F-9) and reboot |

Thanks for your answer,
Actually my support ask me to install the 169.12 release which has been tested for their software. Anyway, I tried to use yum remove xorg-x11-drv-nvidia, then reboot in CLI mode. Theoretically I don't have any Nvidia driver installed. But the installation of the 169.12 still doesn't work when trying to rebuild the kernel. I suggest the experts to check my first message with the *.log file attached. Rgds, AF |

169.12 doesn't support linux kernel 2.6.27. You will need to patch the driver to work with the newer kernel. There is a patch for 173.14.12 here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=119839
This patch doesn't apply against 169.12, but should be a starting point. You can extract the source from the nvidia driver with the --extract-only option: ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12-pkg0.run --extract-only |

As you said it could be a good starting point. But I have no ideas of how using this patch. I suppose I need to modify the script. And even with this modification, I don't know what to do...
