Default 2 x 260GTX 216 vs 295GTX

Ok. Here in AU things are messed up and it's cheaper to get 2x260GTX SP216s then 1 295GTX. So what would be better. Does 1 295 outperform 260SLI?

I have an old Abit 650iSLI board to plug them into and I plan to get a Corsair 850watt PSU for them both. Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Oh and how does the lastest ATi cards compare... Just incase. ::

1 GTX295 should be faster than 2 GTX 260 216s because the 295 has the full 240SP on it. If you can get a pair of OC'ed 216s then it's probably going to be really close.

Given a choice between the two I'd probably go with the 295. If you want to upgrade your motherboard any time soon you'll be able to use the same GPUs without having to get an SLI-capable board, which could save you a lot of money.

These aren't OCs, just plain jane Inno3Ds. There are also EVGAs on offer, but they only do a 1 year warranty in AU. Not worth the extra 100 premium. Well maybe if jAkUp signs them for me.

If you already have a SLI board then I would go for the two GTX260 and save the $150 unless you are thinking about going quad in the future. You could amost get three GTX 260 for the price of a GTX295.

That's my thinking. That 150 could easily cover most of a decent PSU. Then again. I could go 295 and keep my 8800GTX for physx... If they ever sort that out.

If there is that much price difference then go with the 260s for sure.

680AUD for 2x260s

850AUD for the 295.

That's including postage and with my discount, from AUSPCMArket Only place I trust. 170 goes along way for the required PSU and I can sell the 8800GTX on top of that. 2x260 looks the deal. ::

I would also go for the260s over the 295 sandmich card. Nvidia has a single pcb version coming out soon as well.

I did come across some benches with GTX 260 SP216 and had a GTX 295 with the GTX 260 cards coming out slightly better not sure why perhaps the extra PCI-E bandwith of the two slots?

The difference in performance does not justify the cost.
