Default Computer Homework Help...please

1. What is the difference between AGP and PCI-Express (PCI-E) in terms of processing power and bandwidth? Primarily, we are looking for: How do they communicate, what speeds can they attain for communication, is communication full or duplex?

2. What is the difference between DVI output and Analog output (DO NOT say one is analog and one is digital)?

7. Describe three (3) differences between an EIA-232 serial bus and the legacy (LPT) parallel bus.

8. Describe three (3) differences between USB and FireWire (IE1394)?

(i know one reason is power, he said that)

9. Give 3 technical differences between Wireless (802.11) and Bluetooth? Be specific.

If you could help me with any of these I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

Did you even try to Google those? A Wikipedia article will give you answers to all of those questions.

Forget the actual speeds and communication schemes. I do know that PCIe is full duplex and AGP is .5 duplex (hence no SLI on AGP).

Bandwidth is one. Analog/VGA can output higher resolutions. DVI needs a secondary channel (hence, Dual-Link DVI).

Read this, it's a great summary of the two tech's:

I'm too young to know these lol

Power, bandwidth (USB2.0 = 480Mbps, Firewire 400 = 400 Mbps, Firewire 800 = 800 Mbps), number of pins.

Bandwidth, power requirements, frequency (there are more)

thank you so much Vin86. I already did the first two and ended up with the same answers and I'm slowly googling the rest and finding the answers.

I just hate this class because they teach you about ancient technology that is no longer used and its frustrating when you build computers back in your dorm room and go to class and learn that a hard drive has platters and that memory comes in standards like DDR and DDR2. didn't even mention DDR3 in class... Such a waste of time

EDIT: Done, thanks for everyones help. I greatly appreciate it. now on to more homework...

You'd be surprised what you might end up working on. I still use serial and parallel ports all the time. If you work on anything Cisco you'll need to know about com ports and baud rate.

In the business world there are still a lot of places using P3's or perhaps even older. The places where you're going to need to know how to repair computers are going to be the ones with the older equipment. Stuff like DDR3 is only found on the latest high end computers, so while it is worth mentioning you'd be hard pressed to even find a computer that has it.

I'm always having to track down ancient AT (I think that's what they're called) power supplies. Heck, most places I've worked at don't even have Windows 2000 or above, they're all using Windows 95 and 98 still.
We do have XP on all of our computers but, a lot of our users are having to upgrade to dual monitors to accommodate our new context based work flow. First time I've seen a PCI video card in a LONG time.

its nice that vin helped you, but usually teachers like to quiz you on this type of sh*t, and if you search for answers by yourself, usually you tend to remember them better.

Heh, I remember learning about DOS back in 2001-2004 in my computer classes in high school. It seemed worthless at the time but its good knowledge to have. The same goes for older hardware.

I'm pretty clueless about a lot of computer related topics but I soaked up specifications and numbers for PC components like a sponge, so I did pretty well with that stuff in my classes.

I still remember a lot of the old crap I picked up on my own, outside of class. Like, what speeds and sockets Athlon, Pentium 2 and Pentium 3 CPUs came in, BUS speeds, memory speeds etc. And even a bunch of useless crap like the specs of graphics cards.

Like, a Voodoo 3 2000 ran at 143Mhz and the core and memory were synched. The Geforce 256 came in DDR and SDR models, and was the first card to be called a GPU, and was also the first card to use DDR and hardware transform and lighting. The Radeon 9700 Pro, 9800 Pro and 9500 Pro all had 8 pixel pipelines, the 9500 and 9600 Pro only had 4 (though the 9500 had a 256bit memory interface).

Totally worthless knowledge 99% of the time, but who knows, it may come in handy for something.
