None of the laptops listed as working so far have a Phoenix BIOS. If that is indeed the issue this is my third laptop screwed by the Phoenix BIOS under Linux. Those guys are the #1 enemy of Linux in the laptop market.

I don't agree. The Acer 9920 I've mentioned before in deed HAS a phoenix bios. It only carries the Acer logo. Anyway I'm convinced that it has something to do with how the driver and the bios interacts. The VT Switch is typical for video bios issues. Let's hope we'll get some information from nvidia soon.

Is it possible you guys are having a similar issue to what I had? Not on the Powermizer thing, but I WAS having the VTerm issue with my previous xorg.conf (which was a mashup of the original one OpenSuSE created during install and merged changes from the nvidia application). I deleted it and created a new one with sax2 and now it's fine. *shrug*

I am quite sure that Thinkpads, at least mine, have a phoenix Bios. Fuchs |

Well, it looks like my bad experience with Phoenix based laptops is not the norm with that brand and I'm glad to hear that. Sorry for the outburst.
