There isn't anymore. The earlier betas dropped memory usage alot, but the last two brought it right back up to SP1. I think MS is busy working on Windows 7 and focusing on getting that right.

Yeah, option to dl greyed out on MSDN for me also. phooey.

I searched for torrents and while they aren't hard to find, I'm seeing many, many claims that a lot of the torrents available are carrying malware.

No big deal, I won't have much time to play with it for a few days anyway. Thanks six.

Hmmm, it's not greyed out for me on MSDN. Oh well.

I've heard the same thing but my copies didn't have any malware on them.

I'll be moving on to Windows 7 when it's out, but for now Vista SP2 has greatly improved my Vista experience.

Before when I'd copy files with SP1 to an external drive, it would slow to 3 MB/s but now it's at a constant 30 MB/s so file transfers are a lot faster. It's a keeper until Windows 7 is out.

I'll probably sell my retail Vista Ultimate for $100.

I've been running it a few days now and I have no issues with it. It didn't break anything but it doesn't seem like it changed much anyways. I did have to reinstall the creative drivers as it seemed to kill openal support in games. In sacred 2 the option disappeared completely. It actually helps this game out quite a bit to have it enabled..

I downloaded the integrated Vista x64 SP2 disk from Technet a few nights ago. I installed it and did the first round of updates and restarted. It was fine. I then installed the latest Nvidia driver AND did the second round of updates followed by a restart. I then recieved the endless reboot issue where you boot up one time and get the "stage 3 of 3" update message followed by a restart and a "rolling back updates" message. Over and over. I made it into safe mode - did nothing - restarted again and all seemed to be well.

The OS seems to be snappy for the most part, but most of that can probably be attributed to a fresh OS installation. I was running an XP64 for over a year and had probably installed and uninstalled nearly 50 games in that time. I did try to extract a 3MB file from a USB Flash drive to the same Flash drive with HORRIBLE results. Under XP it would just extract normally. On Vista SP2 (or any version) it nearly locked up the system. I waited a full minute and it still had hours left to extract. I canceled the transfer, copied to the desktop, and extracted without issue.

I am going to be testing large I/O transfer performance and Virtual Machine performance in the coming days. I will not be benchmarking - I'm just going to be judging on desktop/application responsiveness and maybe I'll eyeball the time it takes to transfer large files from disk to disk and over the network. Even in SP1 these were still major issues.
