Default "Unable to load X Server Display..." after changing config

First off I have reviewed the other "Unable to load X Server Display Configuration Page" threads and my issue does not seem related. I do have DynamicTwinView enabled and my nvidia-settings works fine, but only for one config change.

This is on a notebook, and I can enable/disable my external LCD (DFP-1) at will without problems, OR (but not and) enable/disable an external monitor (CRT-0). When I attempt to mix them I lose the ability to use nvidia-settings. Ie if I turn on DFP-1 then remove it and add CRT-0, it will make the change... but when I attempt to go back into nvidia-settings I get this error:

Code:
Unable to load X Server Display Configuration page:

Failed to find display device 0x00020000 on screen 0 (on GPU-0)
while parsing metamode:

'DFP-1: nvidia-auto-select @1920x1200 +0+0'
The only way I have found to restore my ability to use nvidia-settings is to reboot. I am using the nvidia driver 180.44, with the standard ubuntu xorg.conf with no modelines:

Code:
Section "Monitor"
	Identifier	"Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
	Identifier	"Default Screen"
	Monitor "Configured Monitor"
	Device "Configured Video Device"
	DefaultDepth	24
EndSection

Section "Module"
	Load	"glx"
EndSection

Section "Device"
	Identifier	"Configured Video Device"
	Driver	"nvidia"
	Option	"NoLogo"	"True"
EndSection
Any ideas? This is an especially annoying issue since it always occurs when I am in a meeting at work trying to use the conference displays... (you run what on your computer? why doesn't it work?)

James

I compiled/installed the latest nvidia-settings and can confirm this bug still exists...

Is there any reason nvidia-settings does not delete metamodes that refer to screens which no longer exist? I do not understand why the program refuses to allow mode changes under this condition...

This issue still exists as of 190.53 and latest nvidia-settings. Now running Ubuntu Karmic. Is there no one else who experiences this problem? I still have to reboot after swapping external monitors.
