I've tried several 185.* drivers, and they all consume more and more CPU time over the course of the day as I work. Xorg starts out low, but then progressively builds until it consumes 100% of a core and performance is severely impacted.
I know this is the 185 driver, as I deinstall and install a 180 and the system runs just fine. Why is this? |

Is it the user or kernel space load that grows ?
What about the memory usage of Xorg process ? Is that also growing ? I'm asking because that was happening to me only when using firefox2. With firefox3 the Xorg memory growth is eliminated. Maybe similar can be caused in terms of CPU load. Have you tried terminating some X clients ? I'm not saying that the nvidia driver is not buggy, but if you find the client that provokes this then it may be easier to find out what the driver does in that case. |

It is user CPU load that grows. Haven't checked memory.
Using Iceweasel 3.0.9, and come to think of it it may happen when I have that open. Fortunately I use Konqueror most of the time. I'll watch for that. |

OK, I've had enough of this. Back to 180 for me. Working today was like driving through hot tar.
