Default 2.6.28 + 185.18.04 Thermal Monitoring

I've always kept a screenlet (watermark v0.31) on my desktop with CPU and GPU temps, under 2.6.27 and all previous nvidia releases up until 180.41 probe data from the nvidia card was available including both core and ambient temps, complete with an nvidia logo.

i recently upgraded to ubuntu 9.04 so kernel 2.6.28 and updated to 185.18.04 at the same time and the sensors from the GPU are no longer available in the screenlet options.

anyone know if there was a change in the handling of this probe data in kernel 2.6.28 or a change in the nvidia driver's handling of it?
