Hello,
I have nvidia geforce 9300 M GS with driver 180.51 installed. I am using Ubuntu. While I am browsing I have been frequently getting a screen lock up. It unlocks nine times out of ten, then the last time, the screen becomes fragmented, and I can press ctrl + alt + F1 to get out of the mess and reboot. I am using Compiz by the way. Here is my nvidia log. |

I'm having similar problems on a laptop (Asus U6V) with the exact same GPU.
Vital info: Kernel 2.6.30 RC4 NVIDIA 180.51 Xorg server 1.5.3 Every now and then - approx. once a (8-hour work-)day (sometimes not at all) the screen becomes totally corrupted (windows tiled and mostly black) and responsiveness goes down the drain. Music keeps playing in the background and I can CTRL+ALT+F1 to a terminal and reboot. Stopping and restarting X (including rmmod'ing and modprobing the nvidia kernel module) seems to have no effect. I took a picture of the login screen after restarting X: ![]() And after a reboot some corruption still remained, but strangely only on the Task Manager bar (black'n'white dots)- the rest of the screen is so far corruption-free: ![]() The kernel log showed the following Xid errors: Code:

I noticed a few things:
- the plasma "desktop folder" widget seem to have the "polka-dot" problem along the edges. - Resizing either the Task Manager bar or the plasma widget seems to change the corruption pattern, almost removing all corruption. When resizing to the initial geometry (when the corruption first occoured) the corruption returns as if the corruption is remembered in memory. When resizing the Task Manager bar the corruption disappeared except on the edges or the temp. "speedometers". Could this be a sign of bad/broken video memory or is it driver and/or KDE 4.2.2 related?
