Red face can't see the resolution of 1920x1200 for the samsung monitor t260hd

hi guys,

i'm trying to set a new monitor for my pc, running with an nvidia GeForce 9500 GT (GPU 0) and ubuntu 9.04

the x server setting seems to detect correctly the native resolution of the screen in the DFP-0 panel, but then the resolution does not show in the list of available ones in the x server display configuration screen, it shows only 1360x768 as the best one.

i tried setting a metamode with 1920x1200, but no luck.

bear in mind that i'm a green user i couldn't even figure out how to run x server settings as a super user yet but i could set metamode using gedit at least

help!

Hi giampaolo,

I've been having the same issue with the Samsung T240HD, same specs as your T260HD but 24" instead of 26". You can see the post I made on Ubuntu's forums here.

First thing you should try I think, is to hook up an analog cable instead of a DVI one. That didn't get me to 1920x1200, but it might work for you. See here also (FAQ item #41).

Despite what my user name says, I am now using a 8800GTS
Am trying to get this to work with the 180.44 drivers and on Ubuntu 9.04.

From your xorg.conf:

Code:
Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Default Screen"
        Monitor "Configured Monitor"
        Device "Configured Video Device"
        DefaultDepth 24
        SubSection "Display"
                Virtual 2048 768
        EndSubSection
EndSection
IMHO, your screen resolution can't be bigger than your virtual screen size. Somewhere you must have requested to write such a nonsense in you xorg.conf ;-)

You could try:

Remove the three lines "SubSection...EndSubSection"
Run without a xorg.conf at all (move it away)
Run nvidia-xconfig

There may be other bogus configuration files which I didn't see though.
