After installing a fresh install of the new Ubuntu 9.04 RC and installing all the necessary packages listed in the installation thread using driver 180.44, X now fails to start. The X Server complains no screens have been found. I am running an Nvidia 7600 GS. I've attached my X.org configuration file and the nvidia-bug-report.log.
I've tried doing a fresh install and using the drivers provided by Ubuntu. All versions provided by Ubuntu produce the same results. I've even added the: Code:
Section "ServerFlags" Option "IgnoreABI" "True" EndSection This is a long standing problem that I have found no solution to. I'm currently still using Ubuntu 8.04 with the 173.14.12 binary drivers installed and they are working perfectly. Previously I attemped to upgrade to 8.10 and received the same error as now. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

Thank you so much! That post you directed me to fixed the problem. I don't know how I didn't come across the error. I suppose I never thought it was related to the SLI considering it used to work before. I always thought it was related to the XServer.
For everyone else out there this is the method I used to fix it from the other post. Boot your computer and when x fails to start press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to drop to a shell. Login in with your user name and password and type: Code:
sudo nvidia-xconfig -a sudo /etc/init.d/gdm/restart ![]() |

FYI, I threw together a couple of Ubuntu PPA builds for 9.04 to test a fix for this. I'm still waiting for the i386 builds to finish, but the amd64 ones should work. You'll need the linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic, libpciaccess0, and xserver-xorg-core packages from there.
