Unhappy PNY Nvidia GeForce 8400GS does not install

I have a Dell PowerEdge 1800 running RHEL 5.3 (up to date). I installed the latest drivers (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.51-pkg0.run) without errors (was I supposed to install pkg1 as well? I didn't because when I started it, it appeared to duplicate the install and overwrite what was already done). Putting the card in the PCI slot and powering up results in the anormal bios bootup with all 5 scsi drives registering. At the end of bios boot, the Linux splash screen does not appear and the screen is black. There is no further drive activity and the system does not respond to keyboard (ctrl-alt-del). The nvidia bug report is attached as is the media-installer log file.

Default Re: PNY Nvidia GeForce 8400GS does not install -- problem solved!!!

There is a line near the beginning of grub.conf that loads the RHEL splash screen:

splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

I commented this line out and the system booted properly. Now I just have to figure out the xorg.conf file for a dual monitor setup. It seems that RHEL 5 is using a very old version of org-x11-server (1.1.1-48.52.el5). But that a problem for a different thread.
