Just downloaded MSE and getting ready to install it now...
Edit: Got it installed and it seems pretty nice but as for resources it uses I think it's higher than most are saying. Taskmanager says the msseces.exe (MSE user interface) is using 4MB while the MSMpEng.exe (AntiMalware Service Executable) is using 55MB Not a big deal at all since I have 8gb ram but I figured it would be using a lot less resources than that after what people have been saying how light it is. |

Seriously, that's nothing. Check out AVG, Norton or Symantec and then tell me how bad it is lol. |

Never used any of those except AVG at work and it blows even before looking how much it uses. I'll check tomorrow at work though.
Avira used less than MSE is using now but I also used to run Windows Defender and I'm not sure what it was using by itself. Anyone running Avira and Windows Defender want to add up how much memory it's using together? Just curious. |

I know this test was done over a year ago but still it gives you an idea of how big of a memory footprint some antivirus programs are using. I just don't see why so many people keep repeating that MSE is light on resources when so many others are lighter than it.

Personally, I prefer and use Kaspersky. Also this deserves reason to mention why I still prefer and use: http://techreport.com/discussions.x/18144

i use a free program from my service provider (Shaw Cable) its called Shaw Secure by F-Secure. works great. its saved my bacon a couple times now, and best part its free to all Shaw Cable subscribers.
So if your Canadian and a Shaw customer check it out. its as good as anything ive used over the years, and ive tried them all ![]() |
