Default Take Two pulls the plug on DNF

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8037688.stm

Finally!

Quote:
Veteran games developer 3D Realms has closed down because of a lack of funds.

Founded in 1987, the firm popularised the concept of shareware gaming and published the seminal Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein 3D first-person shooters.

But even so, I have to quote the BBC article.

Quote:
Publisher Take-Two says it will no longer fund development of the game but retains rights to the title.

"We can confirm that our relationship with 3D Realms for Duke Nukem Forever was a publishing arrangement, which did not include ongoing funds for development of the title," said Take-Two's Alan Lewis in a statement.
How can they write that Take-Two will no longer fund development, when they in the next paragraph says that Take-Two never funded development?

they meant ongoing as in no more funding is going to be given to 3d realms to work on dnf. but they were paying before.

Duke Nukem Forever was never funded by Take-Two, it was payed for by 3D Realms own money. The article is wrong stating "no longer fund development" as that means they sometime did fund development but stopped.

Nope, Take-Two did funded the Duke Nukem Forever development for around $6m on original contract in 1997 but it cut down to $4.25m on contract renegotiated with 3D Realms in 2006. 3D Realms ran out of fund when Duke Nukem Forever was almost completed at the time so they got no more fund from Take-Two to completed it.

This was stated before, they could have been on Duke Nukem 8 by now and rolling in the $$.

This is an interesting/entertaining story. Anyway, I knew DNF was a joke and really wasn't being worked on. Kind of hilarious how many people still fell for it even after 2001.

From that link;

Quote:
In March 2005, the Company [Take-Two] renegotiated a $6,000 contingent obligation due upon delivery of the final PC version of Duke Nukem Forever through the payment of $4,250 and issuance of a promissory note in the principal amount of $500," read the 10-Q, listing figures in thousands of dollars--i.e. $4,250 = $4.25 million. "The payment of the promissory note is contingent upon the commercial release of such product prior to December 31, 2006."
Doesn't that mean it was to pay that amount when the game was done?
