Default mplayer-svn w/ VDPAU playing 1080p on 8200 based motherboard (m3n78-vm)

I am seriously liking the VDPAU potential but I am having mysterious problems playing different videos. I seem to have lots of trouble playing VC-1s, for instance:

Whatever problem this is it seems to happen usually w/ VC-1s, I have no problem with any H.264 file. Any clues? Where should I start...

Please note that you should first test if the software decoder works - if it does not, the file is not supported, but it is no VDPAU problem.
Interlaced VC1 files are not supported by MPlayer (FFmpeg) - patch of course welcome, but it will be rejected if it only adds VDPAU (and not software decoding) support!

I tried with -vo xv and it played fine, except too slow. So with vdpau enabled svn build on mplayer I get:

#1 - no video ( black screen )
#2 - the wrong audio track. I get the narration

When playing with xv I get

#1 - correct 1080p video, but not smooth and 100%cpu
#2 - the correct audio track ( no narration )

Should I file a bug, how? What output do you want.

1st something is strange with the command line. When I do your command line:

mplayer-svn -v -vc ffmpeg12mc <filename>

or when I do the command line that I thought I should be do

mplayer-svn -v -vo xv -vc ffmpeg12mc < filename >

the same thing happens: no video.

However the strange part is if I modify ~/.mplayer/config like so:

vc=ffmpeg12mc,
vo=xv

And then run the following

mplayer-svn -v <filename>

The video is fine! Well not fine, I am at 100% cpu and it is jerky, but I get video. I am still getting the narration track for the audio ( vlc plays correctly ), but I think this is some other issue.

When I change the config file to be:

vo=vdpau,xv
vc=ffmpeg12vdpau,ffh264vdpau,ffvc1vdpau,ffwmv3vdpa u

And I run

mplayer-svn -v < filename >

I actually see video, but it is totally unrecognisable. Also audio still wrong track. Here is the output from both with the following options:

mpalery-svn -v -frames 1 <filename>

attached are vdpauoutput.txt and xvoutput.txt

Thanks for any help you can give...

Since you originally reported a problem with a vc1 stream, but now with an MPEG2 file:
Please report what kind of file does not work as you expect it and test mplayer -noconfig all and mplayer -noconfig all -vc ffmpeg12vdpau,ffh264vdpau,ffvc1vdpau,ffwmv3vdpau (latest svn required)

And please do not use ffmpeg12mc: It is something you do not have and you do not want!

Some more comments:
Wherever you get mplayer with version "UNKNOWN", please do not use it, a meaningful package contains at least a version number. I recommend to compile latest svn.
Reading the output of your VDPAU command line, there is a reason why it fails:
Code:
 [vdpau] Creating H264 hardware decoder for 2 reference frames.
 [vdpau] Error when calling vdp_output_surface_create: The system does not have enough resources to complete the requested operation at this time.

Sorry I don't know my VC1 from a hole in the wall. I don't think the trouble is realted to VC1, because this one plays just fine with low cpu so I know vdpau is working:

I will post more when I get home, but can you be more specific about the lack of VC1 support, why does this one play?

Is there someplace to get a recent mplayer with VDPAU through the Debian package management system?

Default Re: mplayer-svn w/ VDPAU playing 1080p on 8200 based motherboard (m3n78-vm)

Upon further investigation, there are no videos I can find that do play without vdpau and do not play with vdpau ( withe the 185 beta release of the NV drivers ). With the 180.51 there are a few, and with the previous release 180.44 there were even more. All videos listed below failed with 180.44.

I am not building my own mplayer-svn, so I don't know what is going on with the version number. It should be MPlayer SVN 29140 and FFmpeg SVN 18331. Since there are currently no videos listed that fail on only vdpau no bugs are reported, but anyone know what is going on with sunshine or journey to the edge of the universe?

Here is the full report:

With the NV 180.51-x86_64 drivers

How much video memory do you have configured? Try to raise the amount to 512 MB, decoding HD material (especially 1080p) needs lots of memory.
