Default How to turn off 2D/3D?

I have tried hard to turn off 2D/3D forcibly, to study the stability issues on Asus M3N78 PRO et al.
Disabling the Composite ("Composite" "Disable") and removing glx didn't do the job (so I guess). But even
Disable "glx"
leaves me uncertain. This is what the log file says:

X.Org X Server 1.6.0
Release Date: 2009-2-25
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.24-15-server x86_64 Ubuntu

(II) "glx" will be loaded even though the default is to disable it.

(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA 3D Acceleration Architecture Initialized
(==) NVIDIA(0): Disabling shared memory pixmaps
(II) NVIDIA(0): Using the NVIDIA 2D acceleration architecture

Can someone please point out what needs to be done to the "nvidia"-driver properly without acceleration?

Also, the
(WW) "glx" will not be loaded unless you've specified it to be loaded elsewhere.
(II) "glx" will be loaded even though the default is to disable it.
sound a tad contradictory, at least to me. What does it do in the end?

Thanks,

Uwe
