185.18.04 freezes w/ flashing screen

Hi.

Ever since I switched to 185.xx, I haven't seen again any screen corruption which lead to a complete system freeze. Unfortunately my initial joy was a bit premature because there is a new issue. Every once in a while, X freezes and the screen starts to flash, meaning, it keeps on blanking to white for a fraction of a second which goes on forever. I cannot login to the machine and the only thing working are the magic keys (killing the X server doesn't work though). Again, with 177.82 things are rock solid without any issues.

There is absolutely nothing in the logs, so I am kinda lost and afraid that this is again one of those things that will go on for several months to come... oh well.

I have attached a bug report.

If there is anything else I can do, please let me know.
