Hi,
I have a Dell Latitude E6500 with a Quadro NVS 160M graphics card. Every time I attempt to remote desktop to a site (either with rdesktop or tightvnc) the initial log in screen is displayed but when I log in the remote screen starts to draw then my mouse freezes, a few seconds later the fan on my laptop speeds up and is quite loud and then my entire system crashes. I reported this bug with versions 173, 177, 180.11 and now 180.29. I am running Ubuntu 8.10. Note the system does not crash with the default open source driver, however, that runs at v. low resolution compared with the nvidia driver. I even contacted Dell and asked about getting the alternate Intel 4500 graphics chip but Dell wants me to pay ~$500 for a new motherboard to switch. Please fix the NVIDIA driver. Let me know if you need me to test it. Thanks, Simon p.s. This bug is 100% repeatable so should be easy to at least test. |

And 180.35 -- the latest release -- does anyone at NVIDA read these?

Version 180.37 also crashes they system. The following NVIDIA driver versions now crash the Dell E6500 using a remote desktop connection:
180.37, 180.35, 180.29, 180.11, 177, 173 Based on AraonP request I have attached a bug report. A couple of comments: 1. When you try and make remote desktop connect the fan speeds up and the entire machine shuts down and turns off. Therefore I ran the bug report after installing the driver and before running remote desktop. 2. I am testing this through a persistent usb connection to avoid clobbering my system so after the reboot I have to re-install the driver again if I want to use it. Please try and fix this I have continued to report the bug but I am starting to lose hope. BTW why is the file size of text files set to 149 kb when the bug report is 173 kb ? Thanks, Simon |

Version 180.44 also crashes my system. This bug is 100% repeatable and I really think NVIDIA could fix it if they so chose. As before I have attached a bug report. Also it is possible to connect to a remote desktop but the minute you move something around on the remote desktop the nvidia driver locks up, the fan on the computer speeds up and the computer crashes to a cold stop (switches off).

Attached is a bug report for 180.60. I have now tried
Ubunutu 32-bit and 64-bit Hardy, Ibex, Jaunty Remote desktop software crashes on all versions of this 180.* and 185.* driver. I have attached a bug report but I seriously wonder whether this is a waste of time. NVIDIA shows no interest in fixing this. Simon p.s. 180.53 also crashes -- not exactly a surprise! |
