Do you know when this fix will make it to an official (beta/pre)release? Because the packages available on Launchpad in a PPA are built automatically for each kernel, and thus is is easier to switch between kernels. (If I understand correctly, the .run packages from nVidia can only be installed for one kernel at a time.)
You can also include custom patches in dkms.

Inside /usr/src/nvidia-xxx.xx (your nvidia driver version) edit the dkms.conf, with something like this :
PATCH[1]=NVIDIA_kernel-185.18.14-572433.diff (the name of the patch inside the /usr/src/nvidia-xxx.xx/patches directory)
PATCH_MATCH[1]="^2.6.30"
This will ensure that the patch is only applied to 2.6.30 and eg. 2.6.30.1, but not 2.6.31. You can edit it further to make it match better for future kernels.

Could the people with the issues please state which cpus they are using?
The gpu is irrelevant here.

Code:
$ cat /proc/cpuinfo|grep  "model name"
model name      : Genuine Intel(R) CPU           T2250  @ 1.73GHz
model name      : Genuine Intel(R) CPU           T2250  @ 1.73GHz
What could be the problem?

hmm..
follow zander's suggestion.:
locate nvidia.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.29.5-grsec-CHACONNE/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.30-ARCH/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.30.1-PASSACAILLE/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.31-rc1-zen1-RIGAUDON/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko

One drawback though, you can install only one version of nvidia driver, so upgrade will require reinstallation on all kernels, however because this is done for offline kernels, to install drivers, you don't need to reboot to each kerel for installation (in fact this would not work at all)

I am using this mthod for long time and it works without any problems.

A new beta driver (190.16) has been released. I do not see any entry in the changelog related to this bug, so I think we'll need another patch to use with this new beta driver. Can someone make this patch? I'm eager to test the new driver :-).

I have not tried it, but I would expect the patch to work with 190.16. The latter does not include a workaround for the problem, yet.

Also a Yonah:
Code:
model name	: Genuine Intel(R) CPU           T2500  @ 2.00GHz
model name	: Genuine Intel(R) CPU           T2500  @ 2.00GHz
Does this need filing on the kernel bugzilla? I'm not clear where this needs fixing.

Yes, after applaying your patch against 190.18 composite is working. although I see in Xorg.0.log new warning:
Quote:
Failed to allocate GLX video capture device array.

@cdrw: you can safely ignore the new warning message.
