Hi,
First I have a very silly question: Do I need to uninstall the nvidia driver before upgrading it? Like NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.19-pkg1.run --uninstall or something. Secondly, I have a 9600M GT and some trouble making the audio pass through hdmi. aplay -l doesn't give me anything with hdmi. Although I have HDA Intel analog and digital. |

I can't find any audio support on my 9600M GT either. Is it actually possible our notebook manufacturers (mine is Zepto) just didn't connect it or something? I only have HDA Intel digital and analog, and turning IEC958 on in alsamixer just turns my S/PDIF on.
Answer to your question: The driver installer automatically uninstalls older versions. |

I've got the same problem.
9600M GT and aplay -l gives me only analog and digital output, no hdmi. Althought it works ok under Windows. |

I suspect a number of NVIDIA cards lack support in ALSA for audio out via HDMI.

Hi,
it would help if you post the output of "aplay -l" and "aplay -L". Also the output/attachment of of the alsa-info-script would help (http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh). In general the NV-HDMI isn't controlled over ALC codec but rather via the Nvidia codec. And, it's known to work when you use the relatively recent Nvidia binary driver, but not with other drivers. Also, HDMI works only when X is started. Best regards Dirk |

Hi,
your alsa driver (1.0.18rc3) seems to be too old. Please update to current version (1.0.20). Best regards Dirk |

What about 9600GSO? Will audio work on HDMI and a emu10k2 sound card on this linux driver? I'm just wondering because I'd like to know if I should bother buying a spdif cable. The video already works.

Just thought I'd add in that this worked great for me. I'm running MythBuntu 9.04 on a system with an integrated GeForce 7100 that has an HDMI port; after spending an evening trying to get audio to work over HDMI, I just needed to manually upgrade ALSA to 1.0.20. Then I used alsamixer to turn the "IEC958 1" item on, and I put this in /etc/asound.conf:
Code:
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave {
pcm "hw:0,3"
}
}
