as far as I know, there is no game that doesn't run on GF256

and D3 and unreal will be most popular game engine.

I dont wanna argue with it. just my humble opinion..

I'm not guru of 3d ...

point is dx8 hardware will longlive
There are a crapload of games which can't even run on anything less than a Geforce3/8500 today. If you think it's gonna take 7 years to start seeing DX9 only games you're sadly mistaken. More like 7 months!

Edit: BTW has anyone gotten this benchmark to work on an 8500? Somehow I doubt they tested it at all on ATI cards....

who said I had money ?

I bought my AIW 9700pro retail from the local store... sold my 9700pro and only paid a little over since I had store credit...

my card is worth more in the ati tradeup deal than I paid for it

so why not ?

its something of a hobby for me... and I work towards this goal of mine

Not sure what you mean by "run." If you mean physically run, then you are 99.99% correct. I think there may be a few games that require a DX8 card....could be wrong. There certainly are several games that use DX8 shader effects, and the effects will not be visible with a DX7 card like the gf256. Also, a gf256 will not run games today very acceptably whatsoever. So even if you can physically run every game, they would be slow and ugly.

thats the point he was making I think. no games "require" a DX 8.0 card and DX 9.0 will probably be very similar

Am I the only one who has come to terms with the fact there are tons of games that "require" a DirectX 8 card =/?

Which ones? It would be the death of any game to come out and not have some support for older cards. You have to remember the mainstream market isn't all running geforce 4's and up. There is a buttload of people still using a radeon 7000 or TNT video card. Drop support for those and you lose a lot of potential people to buy your game. It takes a long time before the older generation of cards become the bottom line for games. And right now most games i have seen just state the requirement for a 32 meg video card. Not a DX 9 or 8 card.

Beats me which games do, but I'm pretty sure some exist. Yes, pretty sure.
