Funny thing was the Sp2 beta was better, more stable and used less resources than Sp2 RTM. The gold build came out and I felt like we were back to Vista RTM - pre SP1 again with high memory usage and explorer errors. I dont know if they just threw in the towel and put this update out to shut up Vista folks to focus on Windows 7 but from the final SP2 code it sure seems like this was the case. I have run both a clean install from the Sp2 integrated copy and a upgrade from SP1 to SP2 and they both act the same way on different PCs.

I'm running an integrated copy, and am having no issues at all with it. Granted, my 'programs and features' isn't quite full, but I'm having a much better experience with this than I did with build 7100 of win7.

Granted, I may run into problems as more apps are installed, but so far so good.

IE 8 seems to be a huge culprit. But the MS installer has just crapped out on me many times while installing applications.

183 apps/games installed in 'programs and features' zero issues, no installer issues either.

Only issue i was having is with UT3 engine games like in Bioshock if i enable post process the screen goes windowed and i have to select alt and enter to go full screen than it goes off so must be a bug.

do you use IE as your browser?

Come to think of it my highly overclocked gaming system in my sig is also running SP2 and I dont have issues with it. However, it's a very stripped down Vista SP2 install. My other machine is the workhorse with background apps and stuff running all the time. Its probably some application then causing it, dont want to bother troubleshooting it when I can run Windows 7 without an issue.

IE sees very little use on my primary rig, which is also a reasonably tweaked and stripped install. That may point more to a default service setting or settings which don't play nice with some common apps. I don't know.

Performance wise mine is right on par with win 7 except for file transfer (about 80% of win 7) and mem usage, which is about 10% higher than 7 with almost identical settings.

The next month or so will tell as I'll be loading this rig for workhorse duty + continued gaming, maybe another 20 or so apps getting installed and restarting a few services.

That should expose any remaining bugs that would get in my way.

Well its definitely not an application or driver lol.

working on a system today. Clean installed Vista with Sp2 integrated. First thing I wanted to do was get some stuff off another PC. "Not Responding" on the first Windows Explorer window I opened immediately after a brand new clean installation. Looks like Vista will end where it begun

Oh well cant wait for final 7.

After installing SP2 i get this weird lag sound distortion sort of feedback when i press right-click refresh on the desktop. You can notice the weird sound distortion if you click on refresh while playing audio or a video file.

Can someone else with sp2 test and see if they have the same problem? i know i never had this problem with sp1.

Thanks
