THQ confirmed today that the publisher will be “repositioning” its launch of Homefront. Instead of it being released on March 8th, the title has been moved back a week and will instead arrive on March 15th. No reason was given for the decision.

Sources that we spoke with indicate that the reason might just be that Pokemon Black & White and Dragon Age 2 are slated for a March 8th release. Homefront is a big title for THQ and Kaos studios and the move to the 15th of March gives the publisher the chance to launch the title and dominate launch day, as nothing else really big is slated for release on that day.

If true, the strategy could actually be a very good decision that should help give Homefront every advantage to get off to a good start. Retailers that we spoke with indicate that pre-orders are picking up on the title and customers are asking their staff more questions about the title.

In advance of release, THQ is preparing hundreds of dedicated servers in multiple locations across the globe to support Homefront’s epic multiplayer mode.

“We’re providing dedicated servers for both console and PC versions of the game,” said Drew Como, Director of Infrastructure, THQ. “Dedicated servers allow us to support 32-players on large maps with infantry, vehicles and drones, and level the playing field compared to titles that rely on user-hosted games. We know how important this is to the FPS community, and we’re looking forward to seeing their reaction on March 15th.”

Homefront is scheduled for release on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION® 3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC on March 15 2011 in North America and Continental Europe, March 17 in Australia, and March 18 in the UK.

No demo needed. The fact the reschedule to miss a release with DA2 (SP only game) and a DS game shows they are already concerned about what they have.

Riiiight, because the Desert Combat mod for BF1942 was ****... no... wait a sec... it wasn't... It was pretty damn good.

The only issue Frontlines had was the dev's struggling with the engine and lack of support from Epic for it.

Game play and design were both excellent.

yup, and that resulted in long waits for patches. now, if they would have been able to get it patched quicker the community would be still around. it's actually a good game after it was patched! i still play it ...

Homefront is going to be great, i'm pretty sure they learned from their mistakes with Frontlines ... think of it as an expansion that has all the issues worked out, well lets hope the issues are worked out.

I have the right to bitch, i was a tester for the 1st FFOW,input & feedback were ignored, agreed on the DC Mod it was awsome,played it more than the vanilla BF, devs riding on the back of that success & not delivering is unnaceptable.

FFOW had huge potential & the earth was promised, it did not deliver period.
This game is another attempted cash cow aimed @ console wasters.
