'startx -- -logverbose 6' results in black screen

Hi,

Because I want to fill a bug report, I need to start my X server with some log options. Therefore, I did on my Jaunty 9.04 installation in tty1 (ctrl-alt-f1):

Code:

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
startx -- -logverbose 6

This results in stopping the current X server and it starts a new one. However, the new one only displays a black screen and I have to switch back to the terminal and type

Code:

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start

to get a working X again.

I'm running the 185.18.14 driver on a Geforce 7300. This behavior also occured with the previous installed 185.18.10.

Does someone know a solution to my problem?

put a window manager or smthng in ~/.xinitrc
ex. startkde
or i think gnome-session

what you are experiencing isn't a bug, x just has nothing tellig it what to do
