Default [SOLVED] 8400gs 180.51 TV-out

I have my television hooked up to my video card via s-video to composite along with a regular monitor through VGA. At the moment, everything is actually working. However, often times but not always, the TV screen will go blank after a reboot or a restart of X. I don't know why this happens, or exactly how to how to get the television working again. I am editing nvidia-settings as root so things should be saved. What I really don't understand is that, when the TV screen is blank and I'm in nvidia-settings trying to get it back up, when I hit the 'detect displays' button I see my desktop wallpaper and Icons flash on the tv screen for a second--then i goes back blank. I would really appreciate any input as to why I get this sort of behavior and how to resolve this.

p.s. I noted the drivers I'm using in the title to this thread, but this problem for me is not at all driver specific. Regardless of what drivers I'm using I get this behavior.

Thanks in advance

I have the same hardware and TV/VGA configuration. Well almost, I use component, but S-video worked too. Search back through my posts and you should find my xorg.conf. To make my system work reliably it was important to configure X11 so that the TV-OUT and VGA ended up at the same display numbers, whether or not the other one was even plugged in.

Thanks for finding me that post. I'm definitely going to give that option a shot if my screen doesn't start up next reboot. One questoin though. I noticed that your horizontal and verticle refresh rates for your tv was 0.0-0.0 and 0.0. I've noticed, when messing with nvidia-settings and editing xorg.conf, that my refresh rate is sometimes 0.0-0.0 and 0.0 , and sometimes is 28-55 and 43-72. Does 0.0 stand for something else? The reason I ask is because it seems that a 0.0 refresh rate would equal a non working screen.

I think that the settings in Screen for Screen1, specifically that it is NTSC-M, tells the driver what it has to do, so that the refresh rate lines become redundant and so are set to 0.0.

Alright, so I decided to be brave and restart my computer to see if the option worked and now I end up with blank tv screen. Below is a copy of the xorg.conf. Let me know what you think the problem might be.

Your ConnectedMonitor line is backwards. (Look at mine.)
Yours doesn't have either TVOutFormat or TVStandard.

There were a lot of other differences, but I think these are most likely to be causing the blank screen(s). To see all the differences clearly make a text copy of my xorg.conf, and one of yours, then edit one of them so that the sections are in the same order, then use xxdiff to view them.

Finally, I managed to get things working 100%. The only thing I changed was that location of the "connected monitor" option from Device0 to Device1. Now the screen starts up every time after a reboot or a restart of X. Thanks a lot for all your help with this Mathog. I had been having problems with this for about a year and a half and it feels great to have things solved.
