Default help with xorg.conf settings

I am trying to set up 2 systems and am having problem with what the correct settings for xorg.conf are. I am using vdr-xine. The first system has a standard computer monitor connected to the dvi port through a dvi/vga adapter and a kvm switch. I had it on the vga port thinking that was the first port but when I connected an old vga monitor to the div port with the adapter to start testing settings to use with my tv, it started booting using the dvi port. So I switched them. The video card is an Asus EN8400gs silent 512meg.

I have a 1984 Sony TV KV-20XBR which has a "multi-port". This acts something like a SCART but is a 34 pin floppy connector. I have a cable made up that goes from it to a vga connector and a stereo connector for audio. I have been using it with RGB out of my nexus-s card and an adapter I made to provide the rgbhv and audio. So I should only need to plug into the vga connector and get the right signals to it. I have been going through the http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree8....18.14/README/ but it seems to leave out needed bits of info.

The "TVStandard" settings like NTSC-M. Are they only for the TV-out port or are they also for the other ports?

There also seem to be predefined device names CRT, DFP and TV. I don't understand how they define things.

What I need to do is define the vga port for use with the TV and the settings to use on it without interfering with the monitor settings on the dvi port. I have found some modeline at a couple of web sites, one or more of which may work. But they sites where old and they may not be the best way:

Code:
Modeline "736x485i" 14.16 736 760 824 904 485 491 496 525 interlace -hsync -vsync
Modeline "640x480i" 14.16 640 712 776 904 480 532 537 625 interlace -hsync -vsync
Modeline "640x480i" 14.16 640 728 792 904 480 532 537 625 interlace -hsync -vsync
Code:
Modeline "800x480ntsci" 15.10 800 808 879 960 480 484 487 525 -hsync -vsync interlace
Modeline "720x480ntsci" 13.59 720 727 791 864 480 484 487 525 -hsync -vsync interlace
Modeline "704x480ntsci" 13.34 704 714 776 848 480 484 487 525 -hsync -vsync interlace
Modeline "657x480ntsci" 12.50 657 667 725 792 480 484 487 525 -hsync -vsync interlace
Modeline "640x480ntsci" 11.32 640 646 703 786 480 484 487 525 -hsync -vsync interlace
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The other system I am setting up for my dad will be mostly the same hardware only once up, there won't be a computer monitor connected and the TV is a Mitsubish WS65905. It has 5 jacks on the back for rgbsv that was intended for an ATSC tuner module, but info on what it can do is conflicting. Most info says it can do 1080i

Quote:
WS-65905 does 480i, 480p, 1080i"http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?threadid=206854&highlight=powerstri p
Quote:
On the MITS WS65905 , in the Advanced Setup Menu you can choose 480p or 960i. "480p or 960i conversion" applies to NTSC sources...S-video, composite etc. It does not apply to ATSC DTV signals.
A 1080i ATSC signal is displayed as 1080i.
A 480p ATSC signal is displayed as 480p.
A 720p ATSC signal is out of range for the Mits and must be converted by the STB to 480p or 1080i.

Quote:
AFAIK, the Mitsubishi DTV/HDTV STB sends out 1080i only, to match this, the PC card would have to output interlaced video at either 59.94Hz or 60Hz.
--------------------------------------

I have read that you can get audio out of thediv port on the video card. Not sure how to set this up, but it would require the video card switch and use the VGA port for system boot so as no to send the wrong freq to the TV and burn it up. The motherboard does have an AC3 RCA jack along with 4 stereo jacks for 4,6 or 8 channel audio. But it sounds like this is setup in xine.

My current xorg.conf is:

Code:

Default Re: help with xorg.conf settings

I still need help with this. I can't get it to use the mode setup for the TV on the VGA port. It ether sends the wrong rate or nothing at all. If I try to set a SecondMonitorHorizSync I stop getting video on the other port. It seems calling the DVI port CRT-0 and the VGA port CRT-1.

Current xorg.cong:
