Default Can someone do a comparison of the 23.12s vs 40.41s?

Can someone do a comparison of the 23.12s vs 40.41s on the geforce 3? Prefferably the ti500? Im curious whether there is a performance boost or loss.

You know, you could probably do it if you're looking to see if it's worth your time to upgrade

I just dont know enough about it to do it.
I can run 3dmark, but thats not a game.
Plus Im not good at IQ comparisons.
The only thing so far is that tribes 2 looks a little jaggier on the 40.41s.

bump.. I was really hoping someone with benchmarking driver testing expertise could do this for me.

Here's what I got when testing 23.11 drivers(I know its not 23.12) against 40.41.
3dmark2000se:
23.11 scored 5897
40.41 scored 5701

Dr.Hardware2000e 23.11 scored 200 on the BitBlt MPx/s 40.41 scored 153.

my system:
PIII 800mhz o/c to 1.07mhz
512 meg ram
geforce3 Ti200 engine 200mhz memory 400mhz
Windows XP Pro

thats similar to what Im seeing bob. So it would appear the 23.12s (and 11s) are faster in the geforce 3 then the 40.41s.

Hey, good old Zarich... how are ya?

Im very interested about all this too. But what Id really like to see as well is a polygon count comparison between these drivers... the Gf3 poly (both 1 and 8 lights) count seems to vary a LOT in each driver release, sometimes up, sometimes down... I wonder when (if ever) they will keep it high definitely...

Hiya sin,

The only thing Ive noticed improved in 3dmark2000se is the nature performance. Everything else seems to have gone down. But the nature performance has almost doubled.

In games like tribes 2 things look jaggier to me with the new drivers (opengl), and I definetly see more slowdown. However, the 23.12s are less smooth.

I keep hoping someone who has some serious experience evaluating and benchmarking drivers can sit down and do the comparison.

I have to agree with you Zarich, after reading the post in this forum and other nvidia forums, the 40.41 seem to improve preformance across the board for geforce4 cards, but the 23.xx run best for the geforce3 cards (except nature in 3dmark of course). 23.xx beat all of the 28.xx,29.xx and 30.xx's

Im hoping more geforce 3 users come to realize this.. it appears that nvidia has not advance the geforce 3 series at all since the 23.xx series drivers.. which maybe isnt a bad thing, but it leaves us with a dated set of drivers.

Well, but what is the 23.xx performance in the poly count tests?

This is what really worries me, as all other GPUs of similar generation (8500, Gf4) have dual vertex shaders... So Id like to see, say, general 23.xx render performance (according to what you say) plus later detonators poly boost performance for Gf3...

(Im saying that because, f Im not mistaken, there have been major poly boosts in later drivers for Gf3, and I think 23.xx arent one of them...)

Right sin. This is why I need some gurus to do a study for me. Because I really dont know how to evaluate the overall driver. It could be that the 30.82s are the best overall or something else.
