Will not touch another seagate till there is no news of bad firmware for at least 6 more months. Go with the 6400aaks/aals

I've got the WD6401AALS and I love it.

It is only 640gb though so it won't fit your needs but it fits mine fine plus I have another Seagate 200gb drive. That damn WD drive though is pretty damn fast.
I paid $74.99 at Newegg for my 640gb Caviar black and that 1TB drive you are talking about is only $25 more so hell yea I think you should go for it.
I was told that the 640gb cav black is faster than the others though that's why I got it. Something about the 320gb platters density over the 250gb platters. I was originally just going to get the 500gb version which is 2 250gb platters. I believe the 1TB uses 2 500gb platters so not sure about it's speed compared to the others.

This rates it ever so slightly higher than others not including raptors (except when striped in a gaming ?? benchmark, maybe there's something I missed???)
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...2328729,00.asp

I will never stripe again though.

What you linked should be a great HD. Everyone I know that has used the WD Black 640 loves it too.

Yea that does look good so go for it. I wish they had tested it against the WD6401AALS Cav Black instead of the WD6400AAKS.

great HD i have the WD1001FALS... one thing to note is that your p5b deluxe will not detect it on a fresh boot... you have to manually restart the PC and then it will be detected... so when i power on my PC... the moment it tries to detect the hard drive i just CTRL+ALT+DEL to reboot it... doesnt really bother me but just something to keep in mind and i can confirm the drive works perfect once it gets detected

+1

The Caviar Blue is surprisingly fast. A RAID-0 config with those drives is consistently around 160-170 MB/s in both read and write speeds.

I will see if I can did up my benchmarks for both. If not I will run new ones and post them here. I have 4 blues in my home server(raid 5) and 2 blacks(raid 0 and 1) in my gaming rig.

Honestly thou if you want a 1 TB drive I don't know what to suggest because I don't have any. I am patiently waiting for the 3 tb models to come out so the 2 tb WD will drop to about $150.
