Default 185.18.14 notebook fan runs full speed

Driver 185.18.14
Xorg 1.6
Kernel 2.6.29

whenever Xorg restarts fan in notebook throttles to full speed. I read on this forum it was reported in an old version of the driver. I tried both 180.51 and 180.60 better, fan speed went down but still not quite.

Obviously this is bound to the hardware, so some information about your laptop would be interesting.

Well, using the same software as you I cannot reproduce this problem.

I've had this problem with the fan staying at maximum speed as soon as Xorg starts. It happens with all the 185 drivers I've tried, but none of the 180 drivers. I have to reinstall the older drivers and reboot to stop the fan. Removing the bad kernel module and loading the good one won't stop the fan. I have tried a minimal configuration without xorg.conf custom options or kernel module parameters with no success.

My setup:
HP Pavilion 9500 laptop
8400M GS
Xorg 1.6.1
2.6.30 kernel

Someone else reported a similar problem here.

Hi,

I have this same problem. New drivers (185.18.31) doesn't resolve this.

My configuration:

HP Pavilion DV6730ew
GPU: nvidia 8400M GS
Arch Linux
kernel: 2.6.30.4
Xorg: 1.6.2

This still happens for me in 190.40. I'm stuck on 180.60 from May until this problem is fixed.
