Default Re: Games that require a GTX295 to run at 1920x1200 4xAA

That is the real drawback with sli.I originally purchased my 2-8800's for FEAR,thinking 2x512mb would rock the game, they do but as we all know now they utilize 512mb of video ram.I'm looking for a nice 2-series with at least 1gb of ram currently, any suggestions?

Depends on how long you're going to keep the card. If you want something to tide you over until the GT300 line comes out, you can get away with either an 896 MB GTX 275 or a 1 GB GTX 280. Newegg sells refurbished eVGA 280s for $240.

A better investment of the OP's money would be going to a quad-core CPU and then investing in either a 2 GB GTX 285 or 1792 MB GTX 275.
I find that hard to believe. maybe you are right, I dunno... hard to judge without some specific benches. I can always overclock my cpu. I know it does 3.7GHZ just fine, and that was in summer, and it's now winter and quite cold.

EDIT: looks like you are way off the mark. Have a look at this benchmarking:

http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=807&p=5

There is only 1fps difference between a GTX295 paired with a core i7965 and a core2quad9650 and a core2duo8600 @ 3.66ghz.

Best deal out right now would be the 275 1792MB edition. 297$ on newegg w/ a free copy of Call of Duty 5. Same amount of shaders as the 285, just a smaller memory bus (448 bit vs 512 bit) which hasn't made much difference thus far.

Of course, I'm biased.
