Hey there!
I have spent the last few days trying to work out a problem I have been having with my BFG nVidia geForce 6800GT. I don't know whether the hardware has gone bad, or for some reason, my system hasn't been configured correctly. It had been running fine on the 180.X drivers, but I decided to update to the latest. After updating and restarting, I fired up World of Warcraft, and about 45 seconds into playing, WoW crashed, and wouldn't start up because my 3D rendering was shot. Then I restarted my computer, and after booting up, but before giving me the login menu, the screen went blank and my monitor went inactive. I tried reverting to the older driver, but it gave me the same problem, so then I formatted my hard drive, and reinstalled my distro, but still no luck with the nvidia driver. It will only run with driver set to "nv" in xorg.conf, but that lacks 3D rendering. After I tried running "modprobe nvidia" with no luck, I came here and wrote this post. If anybody has any clue what is going on, help would be appreciated. Thanks, Zach |
