Default Team Fortress 2: Very low FPS, help!

Hey, I've been trying to play team fortress 2 that I bought for my laptop through Steam, and it works most of the time, but the framerate can be annoying....it usually runs around 20 fps when there's a bit of fighting, but it can drop to 7-8 fps when it gets REALLY intense...I even use a config to try and help the framerate. To further puzzle me, I've heard from another person that my laptop should play it really well...he has the same setup. Any ideas why the framerate sucks? Here's where I got my config:

I would post the config, but it's kinda long and complicated...

That "other person" doesn't have a clue. That is a budget laptop, and the 8200m in there is useless for anything close to a modern game.

The 8200M is better than Intel GMA but its still terrible for most recent games.

To put it into perspective, a Geforce GTX 275 has 240 shader processors, the 8200M has 8. Basically that means its useless for any recent games that use shaders.

If you run the game at minimum settings at 800x600 it should run fine, but don't expect much more than that.

So the graphics card is the issue? Everything else is ok, like the processor, RAM, etc? If so, what graphics card do you recommend for my laptop?

EDIT: Darn, it's integrated....n/m then...

Ya, it simply comes down to the laptop. It isn't equipped to handle games.

You have a few options:

A) Buy a gaming laptop
B) Build a desktop. Even a cheap(er) desktop with decent specs will handle TF2, etc.
C) Don't play.

If money is an issue, than check ebay, etc. There are always awesome deals on there sometimes, and check forums. Our F/S thread here always has some great deals going on used hardware from members.

Best cheap gaming laptop: G50v
849$ gets you

Dual core 2.13GHz

15.6" WXGA widescreen with 1366 x 768 resolution (res may seem a bit small but this is the best idea for the highest performance).

4gb ram

NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS

Try running in directx 8 instead. Right click>properties>set launch options. In the box put -dx level 81. Also there are several cfg's for best performance on the steam forums, have a look at them as well.
