Default Boot freezes on GeForce2 card

Ubuntu (or other flavors I've tried) fail to boot with the GeForce2 card enabled. Everything goes swimmingly off the factory card, but it hangs barely into splash regardless of whether or not I've activated the nVidia drivers (96 shows in hardware drivers by default). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

eliwap,
Can you be a little more specific? What am I looking for with the fan? During attempted boot? I'm a relative noob, so every little bit helps! Thanks!

The fan seems to be working ok. I dumped splash this morning and got the following as the last line before the freeze:
"udevd-event[1272] '/bin/mkdir /var/run/network' abnormal exit"

Everything boots fine from the factory Intel card.
