That article isnt entirely giving the whole picture, Rage isnt a port to PC, their engine simply has paths for console and PC, ie, they are co-developing both with the same source code.
As for the whole controller thing, they are designing it with the controller in mind, because they want to get it right, but mouse and keyboard will work just as well as any other PC FPS, the difference is when you get into a vehicle, controllers are better suited for driving then arrow keys or wasd.

Depressing

The controller could not be an issue but rather him saying the market is going toward consoles when obviously his support is needed to keep the PC gaming strong.

They should just make console games then if he really sees it that way. I only play a few titles anyway, and as long as the devs I wanna buy from keep making them I don't care what the others do.

I'm not overly worried yet given how good Dead Space was. I would hope carmack will at least achieve that level of detail and atmosphere.

The size of the pc port must be huge though. I really don't want to go back to multi disc installs...or buy a BR optical yet.

Being made for a controller is one thing, but saying the PC version will be "cut" somehow to easily fit it onto 2 DVDs... that's just crazy.

There better be a way around this.

Whether it requires a digital download or a Blu-Ray version, I don't care. I'm not buying a cut down version of the game.

That article is mostly hyperbole based on quotes we already talked about. We already have a thread about the controller thing, and the "you will want to play it with a controller" thing is the author of the article talking, not Carmack.

I am sure the game will be designed to run on consoles, but slightly better on PC, like every other game in the past few years.

I don't think he said that, I think it's more hyperbole from the writer... if the PC version is "cut" then so is the 360 version, I would imagine, as it is also on DVD.

I am sure the writer was referencing the need to have the game fit on DVDs for the Xbox, and not as in the PC version getting a different "cut" version.
