Default Wiped my NTFS partition by mistake... Am I screwed?

Ok so I had some major brainfade the other day and was installing VMware ESXi 3.5 on top of VMware Server 2.0... BUUUUUUT instead of installing ESXi in a VM, I installed it right on top of my OS (Vista Home Premium). Booted from the install CD and it installed straight on through. It was like 3:30am and I don't know what I was thinking. Sigh.

So where before I had a 120GB (primary) + 10GB (restore) partitions, I now have like 3 or 4 small VMware Visor partitions, and about 110GB of free unpartitioned space. Does anybody know of a tool that can recover from this? Would my Vista install CD work using the Recovery option? Most of the data I can live without, but there's some important docs in there that I'd like to retrieve.

All I can say is stay calm and wait for further instructions. If you have to wait a while then don't be a cuge hock about it.

Yeah I'm kinda just waiting for some sound advice I went in and booted off a mini WinXP CD that had a few recovery utilities on it (Hirens Boot CD 9.9) and managed to recover the files I needed. But it'd still be nice to not have to reinstall all my software all over again. Thanks!

This should help:

http://www.vistax64.com/vista-file-m...-ultimate.html

I am sorry, but it seems there's no easy way to recover the entire drive.

after over writing the drive with the ESXI partition and data the chances of full recovery aren't the greatest but not impossible either.. who knows sometimes you get lucky

I've had some luck with restoring data and partitions using either Ontracks tools or Active Partion recovery either can be found on the hirens CD

Good Luck

This is one good piece of software when recovering deleted info. I highly recommend it:
http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/hard-drive-recovery/
It recovered full partitions that were totally wrecked.

Ouch ... well since you recovered your important files, I'd say you are going to have to go for a reinstall. Even if you send your drive to a recovery service they might be able to pull more data from the drives but I don't think they'll be able to get it back to a working bootable state and if they could I am sure it will cost quite a bit of money and time so it might not be worth it.

Well I did a similar screwup on XP, I magaged to recover 80% of lost data with EASEUS Data Recovery, but that was with XP
